Forman vs Forman
UK premiere of a portrait of Milos Forman (1932–2018), Oscar-winning director of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) and Amadeus (1984).
Forman began his career as a New Wave filmmaker in the Czech Republic before emigrating to the US, where he lived an impoverished existence in the Chelsea Hotel. The director eventually found Hollywood success, with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest becoming the first film in 41 years to win the major categories of best picture, director, actor, actress and screenplay in the 1976 Academy Awards.
Through a collage of rare interviews and footage from Forman’s private and official archives, directors Helena Trestikova and Jakub Hejna explore the life’s work of a courageous artist.
