My father Antonín Kratochvíl

19th November 2020 @ 10:00 am - 22nd November 2020 @ 10:00 am

The dramatically revealing story of Czech born Antonín Kratochvíl, a four-time World Press Photo winner, who photographed celebrities such as David Bowie, George Clooney and Johnny Depp, as well as wars and human catastrophes.

In this personal encounter with his son and fellow photographer Michael, Antonín Kratochvíl, a founding member of the legendary VII Photo Agency, candidly answers Michael‘s questions, setting off on a journey to the past. Kratochvíl‘s striking black and white photographs of Mongolia’s street children, the war in Iraq and the Chernobyl disaster  guide us through his refugee life and unique style of photography marked by a depth of understanding for his subjects based on his personal experience. He spent his childhood with his parents in a labour camp in communist Czechoslovakia, emigrated at 18. Via a refugee camp in Austria, a Swedish jail, the French Foreign Legion, and studies in Amsterdam, he arrived in the USA and became a world famous photojournalist, while his son, left behind the Iron Curtain, believed him to be dead.

The film will be available to rent (UK only) for £4.99 see Vimeo on Demand link below
