BCSA members and their friends were out in force to celebrate the 25th Annual Dinner of the Association, held at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel in Bloomsbury, London.

Chairman Michael Roberts welcomed guests including Slovak Ambassador HE L’ubomír Rehák. He also announced the launch of the BCSA’s new website.

During the course of evening, Edward Peacock announced the names of the winner and runner-up in the BCSA’s 2016 writing competition, Jennifer Moore from Devon and BCSA member Jack Mullin from Ayr, and presented them with their prizes of £300 and £100 respectively.

Ambassador Rehák entertained and informed the audience in equal measure in a thoughtful and wide-ranging speech which was very well received by his listeners, many of whom are concerned about what the future holds following the EU referendum.

The raffle, with eight superb prizes, including stays for two people at AquaCity Poprad, Piešt’any and Prague, raised over £1,100. The auction of a bottle of European Parliament whisky brought in a further £150 – funds essential to help put on the BCSA’s annual programme of talks, lectures, music and socials.

Michael Roberts concluded the formal part of the evening with special thanks and congratulations to Sonja Karikova who had organised the event for the first time.
